BETHESDA, Md., Feb. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- CME Outfitters (CMEO) is pleased to announce an upcoming live symposium in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Annual Meeting to delve into the opioid crisis within communities across the United States: Addressing the Opioid Epidemic: The Science and Art of Meeting the Needs and Challenges of Patients in Pain, will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the Wyndham Gettysburg in Gettysburg, PA.
This symposium is part of a CME Outfitters and USF Health nationwide educational initiative to combat inappropriate use of opioids in the management of acute and chronic pain. The project, Addressing the Opioid Epidemic: A Call to Action to Save Our Communities, is supported by an educational grant from Johnson & Johnson.
Pain, and how to treat it, continues to challenge the medical community, but years of clinical investigations have revealed the mechanisms involved in pain pathology. Mark S. Gold, MD and Siegfried O. F. Schmidt, MD, PhD, FAAFP, will utilize an animated 3-D model to illustrate the mechanisms and pathways of pain and addiction to guide treatment decisions aligned to the types of pain and receptors that are targeted in acute and chronic pain. The faculty will provide evidence and practical insights for the evaluation, treatment, and management of pain with the goal of providing best practice strategies that can be integrated into the clinical workflow.
