In AF, the atria of the heart arestimulated by abnormal electrical impulses from the sinoatrial node andmalfunctioning atrial tissue, resulting in an irregular and disorganized heartbeat. AF can lead to heart failure and has been recognized as a major riskfactor for stroke. Increased age and unhealthy lifestyle choices are riskfactors in developing AF.
