BELLEVUE, Wash., Dec 1 Edifecs, Inc., the proven leader in HIPAA 5010 and Healthcare Channel Modernization solutions announced an enhanced release of Edifecs XEngine Translator that facilitates HIPAA 4010A1 to HIPAA 5010 migrations. XEngine Translator provides out-of-the-box 4010A1-5010 conversion maps, allows generation of test data and permits two-way translation between 4010A1 and 5010 in production, thus addressing most requirements for organizations planning the HIPAA 4010A1 to 5010 upgrade.

According to a report prepared for CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) in September 2008, Gartner estimated that of the $5.5B to $11B expected to be spent on HIPAA 5010 migration, 70% will go towards testing.

Edifecs XEngine Translator eases the challenge of generating the large amounts of data required for HIPAA 5010 testing by utilizing the 4010A1 data that already exists in organizations. To further reduce the effort required to generate the 5010 test data, Edifecs provides pre-built 4010A1-5010 conversion maps out-of-the-box. The MapBuilder module in Edifecs SpecBuilder also allows editing of the included 4010A1-5010 maps for content and format, thereby facilitating customization based on specific requirements.

"Healthcare organizations have an enormous challenge ahead of them before the Jan 1, 2012 deadline for migration to HIPAA 5010," said Sunny Singh, CEO of Edifecs. "XEngine Translator allows our customers to utilize the existing 4010A1 data to dramatically shrink the time and effort required in HIPAA 4010A1 to 5010 migration projects."

The benefits of Edifecs' Healthcare offerings extend beyond testing. Once in production, XEngine Translator permits real-time translation of data received in 4010A1 formats into 5010 and vice versa. This allows organizations to standardize on HIPAA 5010 and convert all transactions received in 4010A1 format into 5010 before routing them to back-end systems, and then convert outbound 5010 transactions into 4010A1 before routing them to trading partners. Alternately, organizations can standardize on HIPAA 4010A1 and then convert inbound 5010 transactions to 4010A1 and the outbound 4010A1 transactions to 5010. In addition, XEngine allows healthcare organizations to function in dual mode, where both 4010A1 and 5010 transactions can be received and validated depending on trading partner or transaction type.

To help customers with migration to HIPAA 5010, Edifecs also recently announced the release of the Edifecs5010(TM) Compliance Online, a free and comprehensive scenario-based testing and certification service for 5010 transactions. Edifecs5010(TM) Compliance Online also offers free 4010A1-5010 Comparison Manuals and 5010 Companion Guides. More information is available at www.edifecs.com.
