Expansion of MATR Program Answers the Growing Need to Provide Mental Health Services to Adolescents

SEATTLE, Nov. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- ERC/Insight Behavioral Health Center, Seattle, Washington (ERC/Insight Washington) announces today the expansion of its mood, anxiety and trauma-related (MATR) program to adolescents ranging from 12 – 18 years of age. The expansion of MATR to adolescents reflects the growing need and increased referrals to provide an intense and unique level of care to this age group. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five children ages 13-18 have, or will have, a serious mental illness1.

"Early diagnoses and intervention are essential to reduce the potentially harmful impact mental health disorders can have on adolescents," says Lara Schuster Effland, LICSW, Regional Managing Director of Clinical Operations for ERC/Insight Washington. "It is with great pride that we extend our unique and intensive mood, anxiety and trauma program to some of the most vulnerable patients battling these disorders, helping them and their families begin a lifetime of healing and recovery."

The adolescent program offers two levels of care: Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). IOP will consist of comprehensive support services with three hours of programming per day, three to five days a week. PHP will provide similar services at eight hours during the week and six hours on the weekend, seven days a week.

For both IOP and PHP, patients can expect the same level of high quality of care and expertise as the adult program. Program offerings include:

IOP:

  • Structured schedule of individual and group therapy emphasizing development and practical use of recovery skills in interactions outside of the treatment environment
  • Patients encouraged to continue working with outpatient treatment professionals as an adjunct to IOP participation or may have treatment team in house
  • Direct-admit or step-down level of care
  • Weekly individual therapy
PHP:

  • Daytime medical and psychiatric support as needed
  • Structured schedule of individual, family and group therapy and mood-focused nutrition education emphasizing learning and practicing recovery skills
  • Opportunities to practice recovery skills during evenings at home
  • Direct-admit or step-down level of care
  • Twice-weekly individual therapy, weekly patient centered meeting with treatment team, and twice-weekly psychiatry visits
The program works closely with a patient's therapist and/or psychiatrist (in the community) to ensure continuity of care. It uses an integrated treatment approach that focuses on behavior change modalities from evidence-based treatments, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Exposure and Response Prevention, Behavioral Activation, and Radically Open- Dialectical Behavior Therapy. It also supports these treatments with a strong influence from mindfulness focused, behavioral therapies and trauma informed practices.

ERC/Insight Washington recognizes the need for the synergy of care between eating, mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders. Its unique programs give patients access to multiple levels of care and programs in one setting, increasing their likelihood of achieving and maintaining long-lasting recovery.

In addition to ERC/Insight Washington, ERC/Insight locations that offer the MATR program include Chicago, IL; Cincinnati, OH; Houston, TX; Round Rock, TX; Sacramento, CA; San Antonio, TX and The Woodlands, TX.
