NEW YORK, Oct. 20 Duane Reade, New York's leading drugstore chain, today announced it has extended the hours of operation in 55 of its 256 store locations as part of its continuing effort to make life easier for New Yorkers. The changes announced today will increase the number of stores open 7 days a week in the New York metro area to 248 locations, and stores open 24-hours to 70 locations.

"As part of Duane Reade's commitment to create a more convenient, efficient, enjoyable and rewarding shopping experience for New Yorkers, we are delighted to extend the hours of more and more of our stores," said Chuck Newsom, Senior Vice President, Store Operations at Duane Reade. "As the only uniquely New York drug store chain we know first-hand that this city never sleeps, so neither will we. We also know how important it is to be there for our customers when they need us."

Among the Duane Reade stores that will be open 24/7 is the chain's newest location at 1350 Broadway, Herald Square, scheduled to open later this month. Other newly renovated stores open 24-hours are located at 34th and 5th( )Avenue, across from the Empire State building, 34th Street and 3rd( ) Avenue, 34th Street and 8th Avenue across from Madison Square Garden, 75th and Columbus, and at Avenue U and Nostrand Avenue in Brooklyn. Today's announcement is part of Duane Reade's overall commitment to transform its store experience for customers, an evolutionary process which began late in 2008 following extensive customer research. As part of the transformation, Duane Reade is improving its offering to include a localized product selection that meets New Yorkers needs and recently launched its own exclusive brand of delectable food and beverage items under the DR Delish(TM) brand name. Additionally, the Company has updated many of its stores to a look and feel that is fresh and contemporary and much more 'shop-able'. Moreover, Duane Reade is making major improvements in customer service and its pharmacy operations.
