South Florida weight-loss pioneer Dr. Sanford Siegal returned to ABC's Good Morning America this morning to discuss how Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET(R) has grown into an international phenomenon since his last appearance on the program in 2003

MIAMI, Oct. 16 -- Renowned physician, author, and weight-loss expert Dr. Sanford

Siegal, who was a guest on ABC's Good Morning America in 2003, returned to the program this morning to discuss the dramatic growth in popularity that his Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® weight-loss system and brand of hunger-busting foods have experienced in the seven years since his last appearance.  Today's interview covered a variety of subjects including the merits of fast weight loss, the major causes of diet failures, and the Miami physician's latest book, Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Book: How a Doctor and His Cookie Helped 500,000 People Lose Weight Fast (2009, Hyde Park Publishing Ltd., ISBN 978-0-9822728-3-1).

When Dr. Siegal appeared on GMA in 2003, Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® was only available from doctors. Although hundreds of thousands of Dr. Siegal's patients in the Miami area had been on his program and used his cookies since he developed them in 1975, they weren't sold in retail stores or online. Seven years later, Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® is a major player in the nutrition and diet food field, a multimillion dollar business that is perpetually in the national news.

"I was delighted when Good Morning America asked me to drop by again. When I was on in 2003, my cookies were only available from a handful of locations and the vast majority of viewers were frustrated that they couldn’t get them in their area. This time, however, Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet foods are available to everyone who wants them, online and from over 800 retailers including many GNC and Walgreens stores," said Dr. Siegal.

In addition to featuring Dr. Siegal, GMA interviewed success story Josie Raper who lost half her weight with the help of his cookies. Dr. Siegal's new book was also covered.

"This was the first national TV show on which I was able to discuss my new book, Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet Book. I'm excited about this book because it offers an in-depth examination of well-established concepts that support my approach. I think that people who read the book will understand that, despite its flashy name, Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet is a serious, fully vetted plan for successful weight loss. The book also clearly differentiates the real Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet from the slew of copycat products sold by entrepreneurs who hope to ride our coat tails."

During the segment, which lasted nearly five minutes, video of Dr. Siegal's private Miami bakery and the Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET® web site, www.CookieDiet.com, were shown.

"The debut of CookieDiet.com in May of 2007 marked the beginning of the transition of Dr. Siegal's Cookie Diet from a niche brand available only from doctors to an international consumer brand," said Matthew Siegal, president and CEO of Dr. Siegal's Direct Nutritionals, LLC.  "In just two years, nearly 100,000 people have registered on CookieDiet.com, and we've been profiled by more than 100 major media outlets including Forbes, CNN, Fox News, Investor's Business Daily, and Entertainment Tonight. We even made the cover of People magazine this year."

Dr. Siegal’s COOKIE DIET(R) is a family-owned business comprising several companies with corporate locations in the Miami, Florida, and Washington, DC, metro areas. Under license from Dr. Siegal’s SM Licensing Corporation, Dr. Siegal’s Direct Nutritionals, LLC operates the web site CookieDiet.com (95,000 members) and distributes products directly to consumers and resellers.
