OTTAWA, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - MDS Nordion, a leading provider ofmedical isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals, has appointed Dr. Peter Covitz tothe newly created position of Senior Vice-President Innovation. Dr. Covitzwill lead the global effort for developing and implementing new technologystrategies and identifying new complimentary business opportunities to betterserve customers and support growth at MDS Nordion.

Dr. Covitz will report directly to Steve West, President of MDS Nordionand will be a member of the MDS Nordion Executive Management Team and arepresentative on the MDS Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr. Covitz comes to MDS Nordion from the National Cancer Institute (NCI)in Maryland, United States, where he held the position of Chief OperatingOfficer at the NCI's Center for Biomedical Informatics and InformationTechnology. He holds a Ph.D in Microbiology from Columbia University and aB.A. with a major in biology from Colgate University. Dr. Covitz holds anumber of patents and is widely published in scientific journals.
