Challenge Spotlights Powerful, Resilient Women

CARLSBAD, Calif., Feb. 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Curves International Inc., one of the largest chains of fitness clubs

for women in the world, announced today the winners of the 2016 Curves Strong Women Challenge. Curves invited women across North America to embark on the Curves Strong Women Challenge and share their stories of strength and resilience. The culmination of this 10-week challenge honors and celebrates these dedicated women who have overcome personal and physical challenges to lose weight, become healthier and more fit through their experience with Curves.

This year's Curves' celebrated winners include women across a number of categories:

  • Inspirational Curves Strong Woman of the Year: Sandra W. from Curves of Langley, BC, had her "moment" when she realized she was constantly out of breath with an aching back, hips and knees. She took the plunge, joined Curves, and has never felt better.
  • Healthy Curves Strong Woman of the Year:  DeAnn M. from Curves of East Greenville, PA, started on her Curves journey after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic and experiencing other medical issues. Since joining Curves, she has embraced a healthy life as a strong, confident woman.
  • Transformed Curves Strong Woman of the Year:  Lori V. from Curves of Yorktown Heights, NY, is a working mother of two and didn't realize how far she'd let herself go. Since joining her Curves community, she is stronger, healthier and wiser.
  • Curves Coaches of the Year 2016:  Curves coaches Erin A. from Curves of Natomas, CA, Kari H. from Curves of Highland, AR, and Sheila E. from Curves of Wytheville, VA, are celebrated for their inspiration and commitment to themselves and others. All three coaches were previously Curves members who felt so inspired and supported that they joined the Curves team as employees. They now dedicate their lives to improving the physical, mental and emotional health of women in their community.

"We are so inspired and proud of all the women who participated in the Curves Strong Women Challenge," said Monty Sharma, CEO of Curves International, Inc. "The dedication these women have to their personal health and wellness serves to motivate and inspire others and show that anyone can take charge of their life."

Curves is a club designed specifically for women, providing a 30-minute full body workout, along with a supportive and non-judgmental environment for fitness, weight loss and healthy living. The Curves Strong Women Challenge recognizes that everyone has a unique personal journey that can empower others to identify their inner strengths and achieve a healthier lifestyle. As part of the challenge, participants were required to work out a minimum of three times per week over the 10-week period, in addition to attending monthly coaching sessions in order to qualify. Participants then shared a personal essay that reflected on their journey, along with before and after photos to show how strong they've become.
