WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- A Panel of Board Certified Dermatologists reviewed statements made by TheEWG during a recent Cosmetic Bootcamp meeting and concluded that the benefits of sun protection products clearly outweigh the alleged risks as cited by the EWG. Noting that there was no data in humans to substantiate the statements decrying the use
Kenneth Beer MD, FAAD, one of The Cosmetic Bootcamp directors, said that he uses sun protection for himself and his family, and in his opinion, the statements advising people not to use sunscreens are "irresponsible and are likely to result in premature skin aging and increased rates of skin cancers." In addition, Dr. Beer states, "the data for the retinoids shows that they help reverse sun damage and improve aging skin." Mary Lupo MD, FAAD, program chair, strongly believes that the use of sun protection is one of the most important aspects of any skincare regimen and pointed out that "any responsible statement on the risks and benefits of sun protection should be based upon science, not speculation."
