SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas, March 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Access today announced that Cooper University Health Care, South Jersey's only Level 1 trauma center, is extending its Access Passport web-based, electronic forms solution to close paper gaps in Oncology and Surgical Services.
For more than two years, Cooper has used Access Passport in patient registration. Transitioning from paper-based forms to the paperless platform enables the hospital to capture more than 20,000 electronic patient signatures per week, which results in the elimination of more than one million pieces of paper each year.
Once forms are completed and electronically signed, they're automatically integrated into patient charts in the Epic electronic medical record, and immediately available to clinicians, billing staff and other authorized hospital personnel.
"Implementing Access Passport in patient registration alongside Epic has enabled us to speed admissions, improve the patient experience and create the foundation to move forward with a mobile eForms solution," said Jayashree Raman, senior vice president and chief information officer at Cooper. Raman was named 2017's CIO of the Year for Nonprofits by New Jersey Technology Council and recognized as one of the "100 Hospital & Health System CIOs to Know" by Becker's Hospital Review three years in a row. Once the positive impact of Access Passport in registration became evident, Raman and her team started looking for additional paper gaps to close in other areas of the hospital. They soon zeroed in on Informed Consents in the Oncology and Surgical Services departments. Cooper saw a need to digitize this critical form in order to make it fillable and signable, minimize human error by utilizing required fields and dynamic required fields, and make the consent available via tablet for a better patient experience. Furthermore, Raman wanted a solution that provided clinician users as much of an Epic-centric experience as possible. Access Passport checked all the functionality boxes.
"With Access Passport, clinicians will be able to launch Informed Consents directly from Epic and seamlessly 'hand-off' these forms to tablets. To the clinician, it will feel like they never left Epic, which is exactly what we want. Patients will be able to view and complete an intuitive form on a tablet. They will be able to quickly complete and electronically sign Informed Consents easily at the bedside. This is the patient experience we're looking for," Raman said.
