Concerto Renal Services, a nursing home dialysis provider based in the Midwest, is bringing its services to Maryland through acquisition. The move signals the emergence of a new player in a growing sub-industry.

CHICAGO, May 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Concerto Renal Services (Concerto), one of the nation's leading providers

of staff-assisted home hemodialysis services in skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), is acquiring Home Dialysis of Maryland (HDOM). Based in Chicago and serving patients in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Indiana, the acquisition will expand Concerto's annual dialysis population to over 2,200 patients in 40 SNFs. The acquisition is expected to close on June 1, 2019.

Established in 2014 and based in Baltimore, HDOM is a pioneering dialysis provider offering home dialysis and SNF dialysis services throughout Maryland. The acquisition expands Concerto's growth into the East Coast in the developing field of nursing home dialysis.

"Our cutting-edge technology and innovative model of home dialysis care for nursing home patients extends and improves lives, says Concerto Chief Executive Officer, Shimmy Meystel. "Concerto is thrilled to bring its mission to 'Reimagine Dialysis' to Maryland and expand its community of satisfied patients, their families, and operators." Jonathan Hazman, the co-owner and CEO of HDOM, will stay on to serve as Concerto's Vice President for Maryland as well as Director of Business Development. "This is a wonderful marriage between two providers with mission-driven approaches for compassionate SNF dialysis care," says Hazman. "Concerto is a market leader committed to the dialysis community. They're the perfect partner to take our Maryland efforts to the next level."

The acquisition elevates Concerto, a midwestern power in SNF dialysis, to a national stage. The move also shines a spotlight on the delivery of nursing home dialysis, where patients, SNFs, hospitals, and payors stand to gain. As providers and payors move to value-based models, care at home in any setting is increasingly promoted. With approximately 70,000 SNF residents in the U.S. requiring dialysis and this population poised to grow, providing effective in-home dialysis to SNF residents is imperative. Further, the transition to CMS's Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) – which rewards higher reimbursement with the provision of nursing care to more clinically complex residents – places a premium on Concerto's model. Added Meystel, "Concerto's model is a win for everyone, and we're thrilled for the Maryland dialysis community."

About Concerto Renal Services

Founded by nursing home operators who grew frustrated with both the quality of in-house dialysis care and the risks of transporting patients offsite to dialyze, Concerto Renal Services began in 2015 with the mission to "Reimagine Dialysis." Based in Chicago, Concerto provides in-house services to more nursing home residents than any other provider in America. Concerto's compassionate and innovative model of three-times-weekly hemodialysis delivers enhanced technology and human capital to a nursing home resident's doorstep. Concerto believes that dialysis care for nursing home residents should accommodate their lifestyle and conform to their schedule. The result is improved and extended lives, while dramatically reducing the overall costs of these patients to the healthcare system. Concerto operates in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and soon Maryland.
