Veterans needing dental health care were scheduled during the four hours devoted to the project. A total of 15 were seen and provided needed dental care at that time. Some veterans like Rebecca traveled over 250 miles round trip from Toledo to be seen by the dental staff. It was the first visit to the dentist in over nine years because of financial situations.

As she left, she told the staff, "This was the best dental experience ever."

"Today we opened our doors for four hours to provide dental care services for veterans and it was a fantastic morning," states Dr. John Clay with Clay and Associates DDS, PLC.

Dr. Shaun O'Neill added, "We were able to do over $11,000 of free dental work for those 15 veterans in additional to over $15,000 in additional treatment plans that will be completed for those veterans in the next couple of months."

The I-Smile Silver program is a pilot project in Iowa and Gayla has been working with dental professionals in coordinating much needed dental care for our veterans.

In an interview on the project Gayla Moore provided more details on the event, "In this project that we are doing today, I have gone to the Veterans Administration offices and asked if there are vets in need of dental care who may not have funding to be able to provide that care or assistance.....And after today, I will help them care coordinate so they can have ongoing care."

In total, there were 15 staff members and volunteers that provided care for these veterans. They included Mary McKellips, Dusty Hamburger, Garthlene Bell, Melissa Carlson, Gayla Moore, Dr. Tyler Wallingford, Dr. Shaun O'Neill, Ange Christensen, Dr. John Clay, Toni Zeka, McKenna Anderson, Ashton Redfield, Jada Zdrazil, and Lindsey Nerhus.
