AVENTURA, Fla., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Margaret Lewin,  Medical

Director of Cinergy Health, discusses the importance of living a healthy and stress free life, as well as preventative methods for April's National Stress Awareness Month.

"It is crucial that all Americans understand that stress is not something to be taken lightly.  We want everyone to know how to prevent stress, as well as treat their symptoms, especially since long term stress can cause very serious diseases," said Daniel Touizer, CEO and Founder of Cinergy Health.  "The truth is, everyone suffers from stress, but we want Americans to understand how to deal with it so they do not suffer from the negative side effects and diseases that stress can cause."

Stress, which is your body's way of responding to a threat, physical or emotional, occurs on different levels.  When your stress level becomes too high, it can cause serious health problems such as heart attacks, heart disease, and depression.

Fortunately, there are ways in which you can prevent and treat stress, and Dr. Margaret Lewin, Medical Director of Cinergy Health, has come up with guidelines to maintain a healthy, and stress free life.

  1. Identifying your sources of stress is the first step in decreasing your stress level.  Keep a log of the time you became severely stressed, and try to determine what the initial cause was.
  2. Deep breathing is a great way to relax during a stressful time.  Forgetting to breathe is common in stressful situations, and most people do not realize that simply taking a minute to relax will immediately calm them down.
  3. Maintaining healthy habits is also crucial when dealing with stress.  Some people turn to drugs, alcohol, and unhealthy foods, and resorting to these unhealthy habits can cause even more stress.
  4. Exercise releases endorphins, which are distributed throughout the nervous system, and as a result, give you a feeling of well-being.  Staying active can help reduce, and treat high stress levels.
