Located in Little Rock and now accepting patients, Dr. Smith Direct Care offers high-quality, low-cost care with access to Dr. Smith through phone, text, video, email, and office visits

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Feb. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles W. "Charlie" Smith, M.D., announces the opening of Dr. Smith

Direct Care, a new, direct primary care practice conveniently located in West Little Rock. Now accepting appointments for adult patients of all ages, Dr. Smith Direct Care offers high-quality, low-cost care with ready access to Dr. Smith.

"After leading the practice of family medicine and teaching in a large, complex academic environment, I am happy to open this private practice to connect more closely with patients. To help patients live healthy lives, my Direct Care practice will allow me the time I need to fully understand and communicate with each patient in an unhurried atmosphere," said Dr. Smith. The Dr. Smith Direct Care office staff includes Amber Smith, RN, MNSc, director of clinical administration, and Rachael Curtis, BSN, RN, clinical nurse. "Both Rachael and Amber are highly educated and skilled nurses who will be part of the team to provide the highest quality of primary care available."

A revolution in primary care, direct care is a rapidly growing private practice model that provides expert family medical care for a low yearly or monthly fee. With a monthly plan of $75 (no long-term commitment required) or a $700 yearly fee, Dr. Smith Direct Care is bringing affordable, high-touch primary care to central Arkansas. In addition, Dr. Smith has negotiated significant discounts for labs and imaging, with lab tests as low as $5.

Due to high costs, high-deductible health plans are the only practical alternative for many of more than 240,000 small businesses in Arkansas. Dr. Smith Direct Care does not bill insurance or third-party payers. If specialty care or hospitalization is needed, patients access their health insurance as usual. By having easy access to primary care, patients are healthier, reducing health care costs in the long-term.

Appointments are scheduled quickly and allow sufficient time for patients with Dr. Smith. In addition, Dr. Smith is readily available through video visits, phone or text, email, and secure messaging through an electronic medical record. When necessary, Dr. Smith will make home visits.

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Smith served as the executive associate dean for clinical affairs at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine and as director of the primary care service line at UAMS. A national leader in family medicine, he has published numerous articles and a textbook. Dr. Smith completed medical school and residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before moving to Little Rock. He is also the founder and principal owner of eDocAmerica, a web-based health information company. Dr. Smith will continue part-time as a professor in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at UAMS.
