The Opioid Discussion is an example of today's health providers proactively going into the community to address the growing opioid epidemic head-on. Louisiana is right in the cross hairs of the Nation's growing opioid epidemic--the total number of opioid-related deaths rose from 155 in 2012 to 305 in 2016. This alarming trend is consistent with the national average and is supported by a number of startling facts, including:
The Opioid Discussion will assemble a number of local addiction specialists and medical professionals to educate the audience about the local opioid crisis and provide the community with free resources for opioid-addicted individuals. The Opioid Discussion will also address a recently available federal grant that subsidizes medication assisted treatment.
"To eliminate the stigma that is associated with addressing illicit drug use, it is important to have open conversations about opioids," said Brant Massman, President of Center for Behavioral Health. "The Opioid Discussion is providing a valuable education forum to not only educate participants but also inform the community of the services that are available. For many, the financial burden associated with rehabilitation can be subsidized and supported with government funds. We are looking forward to working with the medical community and general public to bring light and awareness to the conversation."
CBH has been closely tied to the Louisiana community for many years. With facilities in Shreveport and Monroe, CBH has been able to lead thousands of patients to recovery. CBH has found that after entering treatment, opioid patients are more employable, 80% report no illicit opiate or heroin use and patients have reported a significant drop in legal troubles.
