SAN DIEGO, July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The parent-child separation at the U.S.- Mexico

border has devastated many refugee and immigrant families and alarmed many mental health professionals. The California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) has partnered with the Give an Hour organization to add to the network of
mental health providers supporting those affected by the humanitarian crisis at the U.S. border.

"Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) are mental health experts and are keenly aware of the complex trauma and risk of anxiety or attachment disorders that often result from sudden or unexpected separation of children from parents. For decades it has been widely held by the mental health field that traumatic parent-child separations often result in long-term negative behavioral, psychological, and cognitive sequelae," said CAMFT Executive Director Nabil El-Ghoroury, PhD, CAE.

"We are so proud and pleased to be working with CAMFT. We can't do the work that we do to assist those in need without the support of our mental health community. We appreciate CAMFT's leadership and generosity," said Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen, Founder and President of Give an Hour.

The partnership between CAMFT and Give an Hour will harness the skills and generosity of California LMFTs who are willing to provide free mental health services to refugee and immigrant families. CAMFT will be reaching out to its membership of over 32,000 Marriage and Family Therapists to help find Spanish-speaking providers interested in assisting this population.
