DETAILS: President Trump and his fellow Republicans are poised for another defeat this week in their second attempt to gut Obamacare. However, they can and likely will restart the same process in October. The people of California are not willing to sit by and let Washington decide who will have access to healthcare. Doctors are standing up for SB 562, the Healthy California Act, which will create a statewide single payer healthcare system that covers all. Doctors are also supporting single payer advocate and UAPD-member Dr. Ron Birnbaum for Assembly District 51. We need another doctor in the Assembly to break through the gridlock that has stalled the progress of this lifesaving bill.
UAPD, a labor union that represents thousands of doctors in California, is the first doctor association not explicitly organized around health care access to come out in favor of single payer healthcare. We are proud to stand beside the nurses of the California Nurses Association, who have long supported this reform.
