GERMANTOWN, Md., Mar. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Bio-Trac®, a leading provider of graduate and postgraduate laboratory training workshops, announced today that regenerative medicine and stem cell research pioneer Dr. Mahendra S. Rao has joined its team as Co-Director to its Exosome, Hepatocyte, iPSC Neural and Gene Editing iPSCs with CRISPR/Cas9 programs. The addition of Dr. Rao significantly enhances the program's stem cell expertise and will augment its workshop offerings.

Dr. Rao is world-renown for his pioneering work in the field of stem cell research, authoring approximately 350 papers on the topic across his storied career. He will bring his deep expertise in induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC), human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and other somatic stem cells to the Bio-Trac workshop curricula. Dr. Rao's work in the stem cell field spans 20 years across academia, the private sector, government and regulatory affairs.

Until 2010, Dr. Rao led the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Division at Life Technologies. He was also the Founding Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center of Regenerative Medicine and the Chief of the Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology at NIH until 2014. He serves on multiple, prominent advisory boards, journal editorial boards and oversight committees related to stem cell biology. He is an active consultant with multiple stem cell and regenerative medicine companies and co-founded two companies of his own, Q Therapeutics and NxCell.
