Woman featured on The Doctors talk show given new MV-1

BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Lindsey Ellis, a 29-year-old woman from Baton Rouge with cerebral palsy who lost her home and independence in the devastating floods, took delivery of her new Mobility Ventures' MV-1 vehicle. Ellis was told about the donation when she appeared on an episode of the Emmy award-winning talk show, The Doctors, which aired on Sept. 16.

"Being on The Doctors was a once in a lifetime experience, I never imagined Lindsey would receive a new accessible vehicle as well, I was shocked," said Lindsey's mother, Pam Leavy, of Baton Rouge. "The MV-1 is going to make her life and our family's lives a lot easier. It gives her back some of the independence she had before her house and van were destroyed in the flooding."

The MV-1 is the only vehicle built specifically to meet the needs of the wheelchair user. The vehicle has an extra-wide door, a ramp that deploys from within the floor and extends to two different lengths and a self-leveling suspension system.  The MV-1 meets all relevant Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).

"When we heard Lindsey's story, we knew right away that we wanted to help," said Pat Kemp executive vice president, Mobility Ventures. "The MV-1 can help transform daily life for people who use wheelchairs and their families. For Lindsey and many others, the MV-1 means independence and mobility, things that most of us take for granted."

Ellis and her family traveled to Los Angeles last month to tape the segment for The Doctors. The donation episode can be viewed at http://www.thedoctorstv.com/videos/surprises-for-louisiana-family-who-lost-it-all
