Paul A. Markowski to Join ACCP as New EVP and CEO
NORTHBROOK, Ill., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American College of Chest Physicians announced today that its Board of Regents has named Paul A. Markowski, CAE, as the new Executive Vice President and CEO for the international medical specialty society. Mr. Markowski will succeed Alvin Lever, FCCP(Hon), as only the fourth EVP and CEO in the society's 75-year history.

For the last 4 years, Mr. Markowski has been the Deputy Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the American Academy of Otolaryngology -- Head and Neck Surgery. Prior to this position, he worked with the American Medical Association for 15 years, holding such positions as Director of Federation Relations and Advocacy Campaign Manager.

Mr. Markowski, a longtime Chicago resident, received a business degree from Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, and has attained his CAE (Certified Association Executive). He holds active memberships in the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE).
Mr. Markowski will join the ACCP on October 19 and officially become acting EVP and CEO on November 6, immediately following CHEST 2009, the ACCP's 75th annual meeting. His predecessor, Alvin Lever, will relinquish the position on November 5, after holding the CEO position for 18 years.

The ACCP will celebrate 75 Years of Inspiration during CHEST 2009, the ACCP's annual scientific meeting held in San Diego, October 31 to November 5.
