WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 20 Millennium Research Group's FacialAesthetic Marketrack results indicate that since the January launch ofAllergan's hyaluronic acid (HA) Juvederm product line, the company's marketshare increased to over 15% in the US from Q1 to Q3.

HA is a naturally occurring substance that can be found in cells, skin, and joint cushions in nearly all organisms. For cosmetic uses, HA is injectedwith fine syringes into patients' skin. The product is used to fill inwrinkles (for example, smile lines around the mouth) and to increase volume inthe lips, cheeks, and chin.

"While Medicis Pharmaceutical remains the strongest competitor in thedermal filler market, Allergan's Juvederm product line is increasingcompetition," says Jennifer Thomas, Analyst at Millennium Research Group."Even though there is lively contest for share, the facial aesthetic marketoverall continues to expand and benefit many participating companies in theUS."

From 2004 to 2007, the facial aesthetic market has grown from over $68million to over $317 million. This strong market growth has been driven byincreased public awareness and societal acceptance of minimally invasivecosmetic procedures. In North America, direct-to-consumer advertising by majorcompetitors such as Allergan and Medicis is extremely common and has resultedin high patient demand for dermal filler procedures.

MRG provides a number of products on the global facial aesthetics market. For ongoing quarterly tracking of market shares by brand, MRG offers itsMarketrack service, which tracks facial aesthetic products -- such asbotulinum toxin, HA, collagen, and particle and polymer injectables -- in theUS and Canada.
