Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Partners with Marianjoy To Manage and Expand Rehabilitation Services

WHEATON and HINSDALE, Ill., July 26 Patients with acute physical rehabilitation needs now can undergo inpatient treatment close to home thanks to a new partnership between Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. Announced today, the cooperative effort unites two organizations with similar holistic approaches to rehabilitative patient care for a variety of conditions in multiple settings.

Marianjoy will manage Adventist Hinsdale Hospital's Adventist Paulson Rehabilitation Unit, a 21-bed transitional care unit for patients who require intensive therapy. Led by Lynn Wagner, nursing director of medical, surgical and rehabilitation services, the rehab team at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital includes accomplished rehabilitation nurses and physical, occupational and speech therapists. Under the new arrangement, the Marianjoy Medical Group, a network of board-certified physiatrists who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, will provide leadership at the hospital under the direction of Dr. Andrew Lueder.

Adventist Midwest Health offers comprehensive rehabilitation therapy options. Since 1987, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital's inpatient rehabilitation unit has been certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. The unit offers 24-hour nursing rehabilitation services, therapy sessions seven days a week with a therapy gym located on the nursing unit, speech pathology, therapeutic recreation, social services and physical and occupational therapy. Upon discharge, additional services such as outpatient therapy and home health services are available.

In 2009, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital was certified as a primary stroke center by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. This coveted achievement, known as the "gold standard" in treatment of stroke patients, is based on the hospital's ability to provide safe, high-quality care, treatment and services to patients experiencing strokes.
