VANCOUVER, Canada, Feb. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Acubalance Wellness Centre (Acubalance.ca) is delighted to welcome Renee Warner RN, to their Vancouver clinic, where she will be offering patients Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) and Holistic Pelvic Care (HPC).

"Renee's extensive experience in the field of women's reproductive health includes a deep knowledge of both Western medicine and traditional forms of healing," says Dr. Lorne Brown, founder and clinical director of Acubalance.

Renee completed her RN training at Douglas College in 1989 and went on to get a post RN Certificate in Obstetrical Nursing from BCIT. She received additional midwifery training and was among the first group of midwives to be qualified in BC in 1997.

Renee expanded her practice to include Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® (ATMAT) and Holistic Pelvic Care™ (HPC), studying at the Arvigo Institute and receiving further massage training at the San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork. She received her Certification in Holistic Pelvic Care from Tami Kent. Renee has held positions at VGH and BC Women's Hospital and continues to work as an RN in the field of women's reproductive health.

"It is my intention to combine my experience as a practicing RN within the world of modern medicine, with ancient healing modalities, such as ATMAT and herbalism, to help woman through all their life cycles," says Renee.

ATMAT is an external massage technique that works by guiding internal abdominal organs into their proper position (with a focus on aligning the uterus) for optimum health and well-being. The technique improves organ function by releasing physical and emotional congestion from the abdomen.

"What I love about ATMAT is that it is a simple yet highly effective massage that is grounded in knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Abdominal massage and herbal medicine have been part of a traditional healing lineage that has been passed down through generations and can be used to help everything from painful periods to digestive issues, fertility, pregnancy, post-partum and beyond," explains Renee.

"We are always looking for natural, safe and evidence based treatments to optimize fertility and reproductive health. Women regularly ask me about Maya massage so I was eager to add this modality to Acubalance offerings," says Dr. Brown.

In addition to helping improve fertility, ATMAT can relieve symptoms associated with:

  • Urinary leakage (incontinence), frequent urinary tract infections, urinary urgency, urinary frequency
  • Bony pelvic and hip pain including postpartum, post caesarean and post gynecological surgery
  • Lower back pain
  • Constipation, sluggish digestion, bloating
  • Pelvic heaviness/fullness, cystocele, rectocele, pelvic organ prolapse
  • Endometriosis, heavy periods
  • Painful menstrual periods, PMS
How Does Maya Abdominal Therapy Help with Fertility?

ATMAT for fertility is an individualized program tailored for each patient, which may include abdominal massage, diet and lifestyle modifications, herbal tonics, faja (support belt), and relaxation techniques including meditation. Abdominal Massage helps to free and diminish old adhesions from invasive treatments or traumas to the pelvic and abdominal area, including fibroid tumors, endometriosis, caesarean delivery, abdominal surgery, infection or trauma. It can correct uterine malposition and promotes ligament healing, improves the blood flow to the pelvic organs and can improve the uterine lining.

Women who have had hysterectomies also benefit greatly from ATMAT. The techniques improve circulation in and around scars and assists proper flow of lymph, which often becomes blocked after surgery and results in swelling, burning and deep aching pain in the pelvis. By utilizing uterine massage techniques on a regular basis, scar tissue can be prevented from forming in the pelvis after surgery. Ligaments and other remaining organs also benefit from improving circulatory flow to the pelvis.

ATMAT can also be helpful for women during pregnancy. As a woman's uterus grows, the techniques change to align the uterus within the pelvic bowl to alleviating common discomforts of pregnancy and decrease pregnancy complications.

"Renee's experience and background as a midwife and labour & delivery nurse gives her the expertise to ensure that each pregnancy treatment is delivered in a safe manner," says Dr. Brown.
