Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Opens AMCP Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting

DENVER, March 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Four thousand managed care pharmacy professionals and stakeholders from across the country have traveled to Denver, Colorado, this week for the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy Annual Meeting.

The Annual Meeting, which kicked off March 27 with pre-meeting events and runs through March 30, features more than 40 educational sessions along with satellite symposia, science and innovation theaters, industry workshops, student pharmacist programming, an awards ceremony, an inspirational General Session keynote speaker, and an Expo hall featuring more than 100 exhibitors.

The educational programming is divided into six tracks: Business Trends in Managed Care; Current Affairs in Specialty Pharmacy Management; Research and Its Practical Application; Spotlight on Formulary Management; Staying on Course with Legislative and Regulatory Issues; and The Landscape of Contemporary Managed Care Pharmacy.

The Annual Meeting started Monday with the pre-meeting Specialty Pharmacy Connect, which looked at innovations in managing specialty pharmacy drug spend and utilization from the payer perspective. The General Session on Tuesday featured an inspirational keynote address by Derreck Kayongo, founder of the Global Soap Project and CEO of the Center for Civil and Human Rights.

The Expo hall is the site of more than 100 exhibitors, along with nine Science and Innovation Theaters presenting the latest breakthrough products and services. The Expo also featured the annual poster program, which included more than 300 professional and student posters describing research on the latest practices of managed care pharmacy.

In addition to formal programming, the Annual Meeting included nine independent satellite symposia and three industry workshops covering a wide range of topics. It also offered AMCP the chance to install the 2017?2018 AMCP Board of Directors, including four new officers: President?Elect Mitzi Wasik, PharmD, FAMCP; Treasurer William H. Francis, RPh; and Directors Paul L. Jeffrey, PharmD; and Marissa Schlaifer, RPh, MS. In addition, a group of managed care pharmacy pioneers and leaders will be honored at a gala awards dinner.

Student programming featured the 17th Annual National Student Pharmacist Pharmacy & Therapeutics Competition (P&T) and 2017 Best Poster Contests for student pharmacists, resident/fellows, and graduate students. In addition, more than 100 student pharmacists attended a leadership academy designed to set them on a course for careers in managed care pharmacy.
