The patient was admitted into the hospital with complaint of swelling and wound in the scrotum and scarring of the phallus. The patient was diagnosed with Hypertrophic scar over penile shaft with infected ulcers over the scrotum. The scar was formed as a result of the wound healing process which occurs following physical damage of body tissues. These may cause serious functional and cosmetic disability.

After exploration for a complete cure in many countries, the patient finally zeroed in on Fortis Hospital in CG Road, Bengaluru for his treatment.

Dr. Mohan Keshavamurthy, Director, Urology & Transplant Surgeon at Fortis Hospitals, Bengaluru, said, "The patient had injected himself with some steroid to increase the size of his penis but that caused a severe infection around the groin area. This not only affected his sexual life but also his regular lifestyle. Being a delicate part of the body, a systematic approach was required towards the treatment."

Dr. Shakir Tabrez, Consultant Urologist & Transplant Surgeon at Fortis Hospitals, Cunningham Road, Bengaluru, said, "Post studying his condition we realized that the patient needed to be operated and it would be a combination of urology and plastic surgery. We used a combination of skin grafting (skin from another site) and reconstructive surgery of the phallus. Skin grafting is a type of graft surgery involving the transplantation of skin from a different site. This is done only in special cases of deep wounds or burns. The reconstruction part posed was a real challenge as the motive was not only to achieve an aesthetic result but also maintain sexual function."

Mr. Tamzeem (name changed) said, "Even while urinating, I had lot of pain. The steroids that I used as prescribed by the doctors abroad led to other medical issues too. I lost all hope of normal life. Thankfully, a friend suggested India for treatment. Doctors scanned and scrutinized my condition and were able to provide the best treatment. There is absolutely no mark of surgery which was my utmost desire. Post surgery, I had to continue with regular dressing and daily medication. I advise all the patients suffering from the same problem to seek treat ment from well-experienced uro-surgeons for a permanent solution."
