The preconference sessions, two workshops, each a six-hour learning opportunity, provides useful, practical training for medical professionals who do not specialize in eating disorders, but are often the first medical professional to see the disordered eating signs and symptoms.

PEKIN, Ill., Nov. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- According to a recent report from the American Academy of Pediatrics,

early intervention is critical to long-term recovery for patients with eating disorders, which is why the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp.com) provides a four-day conference of nearly 100 presentations, exhibits and events as well as preconference training workshops offered just prior to the opening of its 2019 Symposium at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert, California, beginning February 7 – 10.

The preconference sessions, two workshops, each a six-hour learning opportunity, provides useful, practical training for medical professionals who do not specialize in eating disorders, but are often the first medical professional to see the disordered eating signs and symptoms. An additional fee is required.

In their practices, many medical professionals come across patients struggling with eating disorders and related problems. Since patients are more likely to recover when disordered eating is detected and treated early, the iaedp™ Symposium preconference trainings are specifically designed to teach psychiatrists, primary care physicians, residents, medical students, nurses and insurance providers how to recognize, evaluate and mobilize the resources needed to treat patients with eating disorders across the spectrum of ages, scenarios and with varying degrees of malnutrition and medical comorbidity and necessity.

The professionals teaching the preconference sessions are:

  • Timothy D. Brewerton, MD, DFAPA, FAED, DFAACAP, HCEDS is Affiliate Professor of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he is also in private practice. He is board certified in general, child/adolescent and forensic psychiatry, as well as addiction medicine, and has received numerous awards recognizing his accomplishments, including the 2013 Craig Johnson Award for Clinical Practice and Training by NEDA and the Honorary Certified Eating Disorder Specialist award by IAEDP.
