According to the World Health Organization, more than 215 million cases of malaria are reported worldwide, and the disease claims nearly 450,000 lives every year. Tremendous progress has been made in the last decades thanks to the work of research and philanthropic organizations, but numerous challenges remain.
1science hopes that many organizations involved in the fight against malaria will benefit from this curated collection of scholarly articles and that stakeholders in other fields of research will be inspired to utilize the underlying 1foldr Hub technology to create their own knowledge hub.
"1science has uniquely useful technology to create thematic repositories based on its 1foldr Hub technology", says Eric Archambault, CEO of 1science. "We asked ourselves where we could showcase our technology and make a difference, and malaria was thought of as a natural application for our self-managing repository software".
The content of the International Repository of Malaria Research was carefully selected by 1science bibliometric and library science experts who searched our database of 90 million scholarly articles and our list of 87,000 academic and scientific journals for papers related to malaria research.
More than 80,000 of these records are legally available in gold and green open access and can be easily downloaded using the systematic one-click download pioneered by 1science. The remaining articles are available in compliance with the existing subscriptions of organizations using the platform. Archambault says "We encourage publishers to donate their paywalled papers in a concerted effort to eradicate this deadly illness". He adds that "Publishers just need to unlock them on their website: our technology will progressively find them and make them accessible to the world through the International Repository of Malaria Research and on general purpose search engines such as Baidu, Bing, Duck Duck Go, Naver and Yandex".
