Employment Requirements

Employment Contract

This is a formal document issued by the medical personnel department after selection of a candidate for the post. It is an important document often detailing the duties, leave, salary, duration etc. and is required by the home office to issue the visa.

Occupational Health Clearance

The essential occupational health requirement for most of the trusts is negative hepatitis B antigen and adequate hepatitis B antibodies. Often the blood test is done at the employing hospital. Previous results are valid only if there is a printed report from one of the UK/NHS trusts hospitals.

The other requirements which varies with each trust include: varicella antibodies, rubella antibodies, BCG scar etc. The health check up is often completed in the employing hospital before the start of employment.

Police verification

This is performed by the employing hospitals with the help of police authority, especially when the post involves contact with children. The candidate is required to provide previous addresses in the past 5 years, and any criminal offences. It is often completed before commencement of contract and takes 2-4 weeks.
