Complications :

1. 3rd degree heamorrhoids may progress to circumferential thrombosis of internal and external heamorrhoids resulting in infarction of overlying skin and mucosa.

2. Septic emboli occur rarely via the portal system causing liver abscesses

3. Iron deficiency anaemia

4. Profuse bleeding in heamorrhoids due to portosystemic shunt on portal hypertension.
