How to Take Meperidine and it's Dose


It comes as a tablet and syrup (liquid) to take by mouth with or without food.
It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein, muscle or under the skin.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

Adults: The usual dosage is 50 mg to 150 mg orally, every 3 or 4 hours as necessary.
Pediatric Patients: The usual dosage is 1.1 mg/kg to 1.8 mg/kg orally, up to the adult dose, every 3 or 4 hours as necessary.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with severe respiratory insufficiency, certain type of intestinal inflammation, and hypersensitivity; who are taking or who have recently taken monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors.
