How to Take Dextran and it's Dose


It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

Adult: I- As dextran 40 (10% solution): 10 ml/kg/day for up to 5 days. As dextran 70 (6% solution): Initial: 500-1,000 ml as an infusion. Maintenance: 10 ml/kg/day 3 days.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity, severe kidney disease with oliguria or anuria (absence urination), heart disease, during pregnancy.

This medication is an anticoagulant, prescribed for hypovolaemic shock, thromboembolic disorders, pulmonary embolism, venous thrombosis and prophylaxis of post-op thromboembolic disorders.
