Drug Name : Fluoride

Indication :


The test is done to evaluate fluoride toxicity. Fluoride is added at low levels in toothpaste and drinking water in many areas at a level of 1 ppm. It is present in high concentrations in insecticides and rodenticides.

Normal Values :


1.9-7.6 µg/dL (1-4 µmol/L)

Critical Values :


> 28.5 µg/dL ( > 15 µmol/L)

Interpretation :


Fluoride poisoning can occur from ingestion of ant or cockroach poisons, death is usually from cardiovascular collapse. Fatal dose is 5-10 g orally.
