Zonisamide(Zonegran) generic Zonit (100 mg) is a sulfonamide anticonvulsant, prescribed for partial seizures. It works by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.

• Most Common:
Drowsiness, loss of appetite, dizziness, unsteadiness, agitation/irritability, memory loss and poor concentration.
• Body as a Whole:
Headache, abdominal pain and flu syndrome.
• Gastrointestinal :
Nausea, diarrhea, indigestion, constipation and dry mouth.
• Blood :
Bruising.
• Metabolic:
Weight loss.
• Central Nervous System :
Night blindness, tingling, confusion, poor concentration, memory loss, agitation/irritability, depression, sleeplessness, anxiety, nervousness, drowsiness, fatigue, tiredness, speech abnormalities and difficulties in verbal expression.
• Respiratory :
Nose inflammation.
• Skin:
Rash, itching, pimple, hair loss, increased sweating, dry skin, hives, abnormal hair growth over the body surface.
• Eye and ENT :
Double vision and taste perversion.
Adult: PO- Initial: 50 mg/day in 2 divided doses, increase up to 100 mg/day after 1 week. Thereafter, may further increase the dose at weekly intervals in steps of up to 100 mg. Usual dose: 300-500 mg/day.
It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.
Hypersensitivity.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of liver or kidney problems, kidney stones, lung or breathing problems, suicidal thoughts, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Avoid abrupt withdrawal.
•
It may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

Avoid exposure to sunlight; otherwise it may lead to heatstroke.
•
It may cause acidosis in patients with kidney problem, breathing problem, and diarrhea; it if so consult with your doctor immediately.
•
Patient may develop with increased risk of suicidal thoughts; watch them carefully.
•
If condition worsens or if the patient experiences skin rash, consult with your doctor immediately.
Avoid excess dosage.
Oral: Store it at room temperature (below 30°C).
