Goitre

Dosage & When it is to be taken (Indications)

Adult: PO- 150-450 mg/day in divided doses. Severe: Initial: 600-1,200 mg/day. Maintenance for euthyroid patients: 50-150 mg/day.

Side effects of Ptu

Decrease in white blood cells and platelets, lupus-like syndrome, vein inflammation, skin rash, hives, joint pain, fever, GI discomfort, vomiting and headache.

How to use Ptu?

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of bone marrow depression; or liver disease, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

It may cause drowsiness or dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

Patient may develop with increased risk of liver damage and bone marrow depression; if it is so consult with your doctor.

It may affect platelet counts; avoid bruising or injury.
