Side effects of Hicon

  Gastrointestinal: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

  Central Nervous System: Headache and dizziness.

  Heart: Chest pain, palpitation, high blood pressure, shock and abnormal heart rhythm.

  ENT: Ringing in the ear.

  Skin: Rashes.

Dosage & When it is to be taken (Indications)

Adult: Oral- 0.2-0.4 mg 2-4 times/day. Max duration: 1 week postpartum.
IV- Excessive uterine bleeding- 200 mcg over at least 1 min, followed by oral doses of 200-400 mcg 2-4 times/day.

How to use Hicon?

It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth. It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.

When is Hicon not to be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with vascular disease, psychosis, 1st and 2nd stage of labor, high blood pressure, during pregnancy and spontaneous abortion.

Warnings and Precautions for Hicon

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of breech and abnormal fetal presentation, high blood pressure, chronic anemia, heart, liver, kidney, respiratory impairment, breastfeeding and decreased calcium in blood.

• Monitor blood pressure, pulse and uterine response while taking this medication.

Other Precautions for Hicon

Avoid excess dosage.

Storage Conditions for Hicon

Injection: Store it in refrigerator (2-8°C), Oral: Store it at controlled room temperature (25°C).
