Deferasirox(Exjade) generic Defrijet (250mg) is an iron-chelating agent, prescribed for transfusional hemosiderosis (excess iron due to blood transfusions). It works by attaching to iron in the body so that it can be excreted in feces.

• Most Common :
Abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and skin rash.
• Genitourinary :
Presence of protein in urine.
• Miscellaneous:
Fluid retention, dizziness, anxiety, fever, fatigue, throat pain, hearing loss, and gastrointestinal bleeding.
♦• Less Common: Liver failure.
PO- The recommended initial daily dose is 20-mg/kg body weight.
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, on an empty stomach once a day.
Contraindicated in patients with severe kidney problem, abnormal decrease in platelet counts, bone marrow depression, and hypersensitivity.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of cancer, blood or bone marrow depression, decrease in platelets, vision problem, hearing problem, infection, dehydration, kidney, liver, or stomach problem, elderly, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
•
Monitor liver and kidney function, blood protein and iron levels, vision, hearing, and complete blood cell counts regularly while taking this medication.

It may lead to dehydration; drink plenty of fluid to avoid this problem.
Avoid excess dosage.
Store it at controlled room temperature (15–30°C). Protect from moisture.
