Risankizumab is used for treating psoriasis, especially in moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adult patients.

Why is Risankizumab Prescribed? (Indications)

Risankizumab is used for treating psoriasis especially in moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adult patients. Psoriasis is a skin disorder in which there are red, itchy scaly patches on knees, elbows, trunk and scalp.

When should Risankizumab not be taken? (Contraindications)

Hypersensitivity to Risankizumab

What is the dosage of Risankizumab?

It is available as Injection: 75 mg/0.83 mL in each single-dose prefilled syringe. The recommended initial dose is 150 mg (two 75 mg injections) to be taken at Week 0, Week 4, and every 12 weeks thereafter.
Since Psoriasis is an immune disorder, Risankizumab should be taken over a long period of time under the instruction of the doctor and one should regularly visit the doctor to ensure the safety of the medication.

How should Risankizumab be taken?

Risankizumab is to be taken by subcutaneous (injected into the fatty layer of skin) route. Patient may self-inject.

Missed a Dose?

In case of missing a dose, administer the dose as soon as possible. Thereafter, resume dosing at the regular scheduled time after getting trained.

What are the side effects of Risankizumab?

1.Respiratory system: Respiratory tract infections, sinusitis, rhinitis (running nose), nasopharyngitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis
2.Central nervous system: Tension headache, sinus headache.
3.General: Fatigue, injection site pain, redness, leakage of blood, infection, swelling, pruritus (itching) etc.

What are the other precautions for Risankizumab?

1.Risankizumab may increase the chance of infections. If an infection develops, do not start Risankizumab until the infection resolves.
2.Evaluate patients for tuberculosis before initiating treatment with Risankizumab.
3.Avoid administration of live vaccines during the treatment with Risankizumab.
4.Patients who are pregnant, lactating should consult health care provider before starting the therapy.
5.Elder patients aged above 75 years and adolescents below 18 years should consult health care provider before starting the therapy.

What are the Drug Interactions of Risankizumab?

Risankizumab will interact with live vaccines.

What are the storage conditions for Risankizumab?

Store in a refrigerator between 2°C to 8°C.
Do not freeze or shake and protect the carton from light.
