Why is Pefloxacin Prescribed? (Indications)
This medication is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, prescribed for the treatment of uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis in males and for gram-negative bacterial infections in gastrointestinal system and genitourinary tract.

When should Pefloxacin not be taken? (Contraindications)
Hypersensitivity, during pregnancy and lactation.
What is the dosage of Pefloxacin?
Oral: Adults - 400 mg bid 7 to 10 days taken along with food.
IV Infusion: Adults - 400mg in 100ml of 5% dextrose slow infusion over 1 hr bid.
How should Pefloxacin be taken?
It comes, as a tablet to take by mouth, should be taken with food.
What are the warnings and precautions for Pefloxacin?
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of brain or spinal cord disease, epilepsy, kidney or liver impairment.
• Avoid exposure to sunlight; otherwise it may lead to severe sunburn.
• It should not be used in children below 12 years.
What are the side effects of Pefloxacin?
• Allergic reactions:
Hives, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat.
• Miscellaneous:
Gastric pain, nausea, vomiting, photosensitivity, muscular pain and headache.
