Why is Nitisinone Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase inhibitor, prescribed for hereditary tyrosinemia type 1 (HT-1) (rare genetic metabolic disorder).  It works by blocking the breakdown of tyrosine.

When should Nitisinone not be taken? (Contraindications)

Hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Nitisinone?

PO- The recommended dose is 1 to 2 mg/kg divided into two daily doses.

How should Nitisinone be taken?

It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, without food.
