Why is Metyrosine Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a catecholamine synthesis inhibitor, prescribed for pheochromocytoma.  It reduces the amount of catecholamines in the body.

When should Metyrosine not to be taken? (Contraindications)

Hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Metyrosine?

PO- Adults- The recommended initial dose is 250 mg orally four times daily. Maximum: 4.0 g/day.

How should Metyrosine be taken?

It comes as a capsule to take mouth, with or without food.

What are the warnings and precautions for Metyrosine?

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of alcoholism, who are taking other medications, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
