Why is Echothiophate Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is an acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor, prescribed for glaucoma. The medication lowers the eye pressure.

When should Echothiophate not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in people with narrow angle glaucoma (increased eye pressure), and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Echothiophate?

Adult: Instill (0.03%)1 or 2 drops into the affected eyes, twice daily, just before bedtime and in the morning.
Accommodative Esotropia- Child: Instill 1 drop of 0.125% solution once daily in both eyes on retiring, for 2 to 3 weeks.

How should Echothiophate be taken?

It comes as eye drops to instill into the affected eyes as directed by a physician.

What are the warnings and precautions for Echothiophate?

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of swelling or infection in the eye, closed angle eye pressure, any allergy, during pregnancy and lactation.

• For topical use only.

Eye- Changes in vision, eye pain, trouble seeing at night, sensitivity to light and increased flow of tears.

Prior to reconstitution: Store under refrigeration (2° to 8°C).
