This medication is a bile acid sequestrant, prescribed for familial hypercholesterolemia and type 2 diabetes with other medications.
Contraindicated in patients with bowel obstruction, inflammation of the pancreas, high triglyceride levels and hypersensitivity.
The recommended dose is one 3.75-gram packet once daily or one 1.875-gram packet twice daily.
For Type 2 Diabetes- The recommended dose is 6 tablets once daily or 3 tablets twice daily.
It comes as a tablet and powder to take by mouth, with food.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of trouble in swallowing, hemorrhoids, who are taking other medications, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Follow the diet and exercise program as directed by your physician.
• It may lead to low blood sugar; to avoid this problem eat properly and do not skip food.
• Monitor cholesterol, triglyceride and blood glucose levels regularly while taking this medication.
♦Headache, fatigue, increased level of liver enzyme, runny nose, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, difficulty in swallowinglow blood sugar, nausea and high blood pressure.
Avoid excess dosage.
Store it at room temperature (25°C). Protect from moisture.
