Why is Cevimeline Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a parasympathomimetic and muscarinic agonist, prescribed for dry mouth in patients with Sjogren's syndrome. It increases the amount of saliva in mouth.

When should Cevimeline not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled asthma, increased eye pressure and known hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Cevimeline?

PO- The recommended dose is 30 mg taken three times a day.

How should Cevimeline be taken?

It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.

What are the warnings and precautions for Cevimeline?

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart attack, lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), kidney stones, gallstones or heart disease, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, children, during pregnancy and breast feeding.

• It may cause vision problem especially at night, avoid driving during nighttime.
