Why is Carboplatin Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is prescribed for the treatment of ovarian cancer. It contains platinum; stops the growth of cancer cells.

When should Carboplatin not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated to patients with history of known hypersensitivity, severe blood disorders (bone marrow depression, significant bleeding), during pregnancy and lactation. Aluminum tends to inavtivate carboplatin, hence the infusion sets or needles used to administer carboplatin should not contain aluminum

What is the dosage of Carboplatin?

The recommended dose is 360 mg/m² when given as a single IV drug and . 300 mg/m² with cyclophosphamide. It should be given as one dose every 4 weeks. If needed adjust the dosage depends upon white blood cells and platelet counts.
