Why is Calcitriol Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a synthetic vitamin D analog, prescribed for hypocalcemia in patients undergoing chronic renal dialysis. It helps proper absorption and use of calcium and phosphate in the body.

When should Calcitriol not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with vitamin D toxicity and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Calcitriol?

PO- The recommended initial dose is 1 mcg (0.02 mcg/kg) to 2 mcg administered three times weekly, approximately every other day.

How should Calcitriol be taken?

It comes as a tablet and capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.
