Test : 4-hydroxy3-methoxymandelic acid in urine


Indications : hypertension

Physiology : Also known as vanillyl mandelic acid and it is estimated in 24 hours urine sample. It is a catabolic product of catecholamines.

Normal Range : Daily excreation-2-6mgs/day.

Interpretation : Increased levels are seen in pheochromocytoma. Decreased levels are due to consumption of lipid lowering drugs.
