Web Based Multi-Functional Virtual Instrument for Telemedicine

The main objective of the paper is to interface certain virtual medical instruments to the Internet through a terminal. The concept of telemedicine is used to enable remote monitoring and patient care based on the physiological parameters that have been sent over computer networks to the remote physician. For the communication of the physiological signals, the Internet is used as a transport vehicle. These signals such as E.C.G, P.C.G., Pulse, Respiration and Temperature are also analyzed continuously at the patient’s side. The proposed system consists of a portable transducer/instrumentation amplifier/ filter unit, two personal computers equipped with network and analog to digital cards, and software for networking. Compared to other existing telemedicine facilities, along with the transmission of medical data, the proposed system also transmits the virtual instrument and its signal processing capabilities through the Internet
