Pregnant with anticipation: birthing

Giving birth to a baby is the ultimate dream of every woman and therefore birthing is a natural process. Yoga helps to tune in with the body, while calming the mind.

Labour is a time for pain and unknown fears. Yoga, which brings about awareness of our physical body, also helps to develop an emotional bond with the baby. The mother is able to connect with the baby in the womb. During pregnancy, the body secretes a hormone, relaxin that helps to loosen joints and ligaments, thereby making the body ready for labour and childbirth. Yoga significantly reduces the physical pain associated with labour.

Yoga during pregnancy is different from regular yoga and is less strenuous for the expectant mother. The key benefit of yoga during pregnancy is to prepare the body for labour and maintain internal harmony.

In totality, yoga helps

  • To bring about natural childbirth

  • To ensure safe and uncomplicated delivery

  • To make pregnancy a joyful experience

  • To deepen the level of confidence in the expectant mother

  • To celebrate the feeling of motherhood

  • To maintain a positive mental attitude during and after pregnancy

  • To balance the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system, keeping tension and depression at bay.
