Mothers Traveling Alone with Infants / Children

Generally traveling with infants/children can be very tiring, especially for the mothers. Planning ahead before travel can make the experience a comfortable one.

It is not advisable to travel with an infant within a week of its birth. The airlines must be informed if mothers are flying alone with an infant/more than one infant, as prior arrangements need to be made by the Airlines.

Most of the Airlines have car- type child seats for children between six months and 3 years of age. They accept only approved seats manufactured under the United Nations/ foreign governmental airworthiness standards, the details of which are furnished to the ground staff and the Airline crew who help passengers to be secured to the seats.

Request for a bassinet for a baby of six months or below should be made as most of the airlines have limited number of bassinets available with them and it is generally provided on an ‘ if available’ basis. Usually mothers traveling with infants are given first row seats to enable the bassinets to be fixed on the front panel/ partition as well as to have more room for the ‘baby needs’ to be placed close by.

Request for children meals are to be made at the time of booking. Wet-towels, diapers, baby wipes, disposable bibs, hot water, feeding bottles etc., are available on request on board of most of the Airlines.
