  • Understand and protect yourself against the sound levels of the noises in your neighbourhood by using appropriate ear protection such as ear plugs whenever needed.
  • Stay away from loud noise as much as possible. If you cannot avoid it, make sure you stand at an angle from the noise, not directly in front of it.
  • When listening to music on your MP3 player through headphones or earbuds, keep the volume low-to-medium. The general recommendation is to listen to your music at 60% of the maximum volume for no more than 60 minutes a day.
  • When operating noisy kitchen appliances such as blenders etc., use sound-absorbing rubber mats.
  • When using noisy equipment such as power drills, saws or lawn mowers, wear ear protectors such as earplugs or earmuffs.
  • Keep yourself updated about the signs and symptoms of hearing loss to keep a check on your personal hearing.
  • If you suspect any problems with your hearing levels, get your hearing evaluated as soon as possible by a licensed practitioner.
