Understand and protect yourself against the sound levels of the noises in your neighbourhood by using appropriate ear protection such as ear plugs whenever needed.
Stay away from loud noise as much as possible. If you cannot avoid it, make sure you stand at an angle from the noise, not directly in front of it.
When listening to music on your MP3 player through headphones or earbuds, keep the volume low-to-medium. The general recommendation is to listen to your music at 60% of the maximum volume for no more than 60 minutes a day.
When operating noisy kitchen appliances such as blenders etc., use sound-absorbing rubber mats.
When using noisy equipment such as power drills, saws or lawn mowers, wear ear protectors such as earplugs or earmuffs.
Keep yourself updated about the signs and symptoms of hearing loss to keep a check on your personal hearing.
If you suspect any problems with your hearing levels, get your hearing evaluated as soon as possible by a licensed practitioner.
